REAL NRL: Newcastle Local Competition

Last years Knights SG Ball prop Tyrone Amey and NSW cup player Noel Underwood have signed for Cessnock.
I suspect both will play most of the season in Knights teams.

The Draw has been announced but I could only find the Wests draw here is there first 5 games:

Cessnock @ Cessnock

Souths @ Harker Oval

Lakes @ Cahill Oval

Kurri @ Harker Oval

Central @ Harker Oval

Cessnock have signed the following:

Noel Underwood (Central - 100points)
Jared Edwards (South - 0points)
Trent Hawes (Macquarie - 75points)
Josh Dimmock (Macquarie - 0points)
Ryan Holman (Muswellbrook)
Josh Griffiths (Greta Branxton)

Also

James Woolford nephew of former NRL player Simon Woolford has left Wests to return to Young and will play for Queanbeyan

2015 Losses
- Hayden Jeans (Lakes United)
- Neenan Simpson (Work relocation)

- Byron Warren (Work relocation)

There are some familiar names their such as Pearson and Simpson who I think played for the 20s side at one point.

Ryan Walker former Penrith player

Hayden Jeans also played in the Dragons 20s I think

Kurri Kurri also have retained the services of former Knight Daniel Abraham and Brendan Worth.

What's become of ol' mate Seu Seu these days? Is he anywhere near NRL standards? He was always one of my favourite players, he's got a face I just want to pick up and hug

Hayden Jeans was part of our 2006 Flegg side.
He was too small to play seniors for us, but he was a great defender - like a brick wall.

Luke Mercer was a great junior for us too. He played centre inside Jermaine Ale. They made up an unstoppable left edge for us, but neither could tackle for ****.

Thought Luke Mercer played a bit of back row? Didn't he play Australian School boys and end up pushing for a first grade spot at the Dragons?

Thought Luke Mercer was a second rower. Played a few NRL games for St George? Also played Australian School boys.

Mercer moved from centre to second row when he went to seniors. He was a great athlete but he really didn't like defence or read defence well - he was rubbish at it. I think he did go somewhere, but he didn't thrive.
I can't remember if he played for Aus schoolboys. He could have. He was a great athlete, a bit like Alex McKinnon to look at.

Yeah, similar build to Alex. Pretty sure he ended up at the Dragons for a year or two, but liked a drink (and a blue) a bit much.

Maitland have signed Ronnie Alovili from Manly's NSW Cup Side (0pts) he's a big front rower and came from the Gold Coast System but got into some trouble there and had played in the Ipswich Comp I believe until he signed for Manly Last Year. Would be a decent pickup for our NSW Cup side (part time) definitely worth a trial.

Will only be 8 teams this year since news came out yesterday that the Port Stephens Sharks had withdraw from this year's competition. Real shame that. Lack of player numbers

Charity Shield:

Cessnock 16 (Kerrod Holland (2) Shaun Metcalf) drew with Kurri Kurri 16 (Wylie Manton, Brock Harmer, Mitch Cullen)

Cessnock were leading 16-10 with 3 minutes to go when a Mitch Cullen try silenced the Cessnock Sportsground.

I've heard that the Waratah-Mayfield Cheetahs are looking at a return to the Real NRL for season 2017 I think it's great news if this happens.
