Brent Read just said on MMM that even though Manly are suggesting Taupau wont be leaving Manly, there's still a good chance he will and Knights are favourites to sign him..

Maybe but a lot of people said the same thing about Pearce when that rumour first floated..No chance at all

Roosters surely couldn't afford him and Parra are in dire straits, much like Manly.. Apparently we're the only club that could afford him anyway.Marty loves the big city lights mate, he mite leave Manly but not for newcastle.
Parra or Rossters

The Roosters still have $8M under there cap to fill. The Chooks ALWAYS have room under the cap!
I also think the fact that DCE is a sh!t team mate might also have to do with players being enticed with other offers of security from other teams. In no way do I see it being a viable option to keep him going forward anyway.
He's been a massive failure to date when it comes to the lifetime contract concept. Makes me have reservations when people talk about offering Ponga a life time deal, so much can go on in just a few years. Taumalolo has been a success so far however. Manly are either stuck with DCE for many years to come or it will end in a firy pit of flames with bitterness & scandal all over. The Manly staff seem to come across as more dumb every year, DCE was never the kind of player to give a deal like that to, but they got scared & desperate in an attempt to keep him from leaving.

Blokes like Ponga and Taumololo have their heads screwed on right which can make a difference. Also Taumololo won't be playing at that level for the whole ten years but of he is able to for 5-6 of them an play ok for the rest then it's still a good deal for the cowboys.
Do agree that manly being screwed is probably karma for deliberately cheating the cap to keep him and Walker. Manly should be forced to honour the contract regardless to teach other teams a lesson the same way the bulldogs are being forced to pay for their terrible salary cap management.
Also to clarify I was referring to not being viable to keep Taupau in the short term for cap relief (but the same could be said for cherry Evans even though they can't do much about cutting him)
