What's the deal with us and the lack of TPA's ? I'm not an expert of the subject and don't really know much about businesses in Newcastle but we're a one club town so surely we'd have no competition for TPA's in Newcastle.

Are there not enough businesses in Newcastle ?

Why aren't we reaching out to the big industries like the mines etc?

Is it the case there isn't enough or not enough is being done ?

The knights have a long history of burning bridges in the area!

The area also doesnt have enough corporate business to provide sponsorship and then tpa.

Newcastle mite be a one town team but Newcastle is 1/11 the size of Sydney and 1/25 in the corporate world.

Cowboys are owned by one of the wealthiest men in the country with players like JT x 2 Matt Scott and been a top side for adecade.

Canberra are run by Queenbeyan leagues which is as big as wests and float them to the hills... also Canberra has huge corporate business.... the big fish are there.

Add the fact most of the major businesses willing to contribute in the region are already club sponsors, ruling them out of TPA deals

    Pretty much!

The 2 local banks wont touch us ever.. due to poor history and no profit in it for them.
Most other big local business is on board already.

Mc Jones are a sleeve sponsor atm but they also own MoJo homes and a 35% share in Simmons not sure thats a arm length tpa deal that could be looked into.
Giving players a new home as tpa would be a huge incentive lol

Gidley says the problem is that our sponsors aren't allowed to give TPAs, and all the people in Newcastle who are interested in football already sponsor the Knights.

TPA's really are a blight on the game, it makes for an unfair playing level and also invites corruption and cheating, but sadly I can't see them getting rid of them cause the big sides have the NRL by the balls and it gives them a massive advantage ......

Everyone loves a winner, and we are not.

Little piecemeal tpas don't matter either, you need the juicy $300k a year ones like Hayne got from the travel company, and whoever is doing Jack Birds (Andrew Gee).

Beau scott got a 80k boat plus a little tv series worth about 40k a yr on his deal.

We can do it when we get the performance on field right and ownership sorted.

Told you before Lord, that is Uncle Rupe's boy you be talking about!

The whole NRL is a mess, and as for that press release yesterday about peace between the NRL, Clubs and RLPA, use it for a much better purpose. Cut it up and punch a hole for string and tie it up in the loo!

RLPA boss Ian Prendergast calls for scrapping of third party payment scheme

    MICHAEL CARAYANNIS, The Daily Telegraph
    July 6, 2017 9:00pm

THE RLPA wants to scrap the controversial third party payment scheme, instead proposing a ‘marketing spend’ which they say offers more transparency.

The murky world of third party payments has again reared its head in the wake of suggestions multiple clubs have breached NRL rules to make payments outside the salary cap. It was at the forefront of Parramatta’s rorting last year and also contributed to the Storm’s downfall in 2010.

Under the RLPA’s proposal — which is part of their ongoing collective bargaining agreement negotiations with the NRL — clubs would be able to pay players marketing deals outside the salary cap. RLPA boss Ian Prendergast said the proposal offers would help clear up the grey areas in the current scheme.

“It includes replacing third party arrangements with a marketing spend that clubs could use to leverage the commercial arrangements they are entering into in terms of player appearances and IP (intellectual property).

“They can sell into those sponsorship deals as well as using players more effectively and efficiently to market their club generally speaking.

“We then would have independent agreements in place that could be entered into by a player and an associate of a club.

“However, they would need to demonstrate that those arrangements were independent, commercial and bonafidely before they were approved by the NRL.”

Despite last year’s Eels scandal, the NRL indicated earlier this year that they wanted to retain the current third party arrangements.

It is understood the RLPA wanted a one million dollar marketing spend per club but that will be reduced following their revised partnership offer to the NRL.

“It puts much more scrutiny around those agreements while driving the revenue into the club and allowing them to use their biggest assets to grow their business,” Prendergast said. “Which we think is the best model but there is a lot more detail we need to discuss with clubs and the NRL about how it would operate.

“Under our proposal there is much more transparency and structure around how players are renumerated which will drive the right behaviour and reduce the integrity related issues we’ve seen historically.

“This is a massive opportunity to increase professional standards across the board so we don’t continual to trip ourselves up regarding the grey around some of the arrangements that currently exist.”

    Here Here!!!~!!

And who the pendergrast is Neil Pendergrast? By increasing 'professional standards' and one million bucks per Club, I take it that is a grab for more bucks. These guys think the pie is unsurmountable.

I have no idea how to fix it, that idea is better than what we have now I guess.
