    Shaun Kenny-Dowall joins Knights

    Tue 27th June, 05:19PM

The nib Newcastle Knights welcome outside back Shaun Kenny-Dowall to the Club, effective immediately, after he signed until 2019.

Kenny-Dowall made his NRL debut at the Sydney Roosters in 2007 and has played 224 NRL games. He won a premiership with the Roosters in 2013 and has played 20 matches for New Zealand.

“We welcome a player of Shaun’s talent and experience to the Club,” CEO Matt Gidley said.

“Shaun is an international and premiership winning player and I have no doubt he will impress both on and off the field.

“While Shaun has been through a difficult period recently, following our discussions we are confident he will make a positive contribution to the Club and community.”

For Kenny-Dowall, joining the Knights provides a great opportunity.

“I am really fortunate to have had a successful career so far; I look forward to joining the Knights and having a positive impact on the Club,” Kenny-Dowall said.

“I am putting my recent challenges behind me and look forward to starting this new chapter at the Knights.

“Newcastle is a proud rugby league community and I want to repay the Club for the faith they have shown in me.”

Kenny-Dowall is unavailable for selection this week due to a hamstring injury.

Thank God it wasn't the 4-year contract the media were first spouting. 2 years we might get some value out of him, then if he turns to complete crap, we can cut him.

Hopefully he's on peanuts which minimises the risks too.

Really happy with SKD, brings much needed experience and knows how to defend unlike a certain few that sit on our right side.

And a couple on our left side who follow the Uate method of defence!

SKD and Moga will be monsters!

The 4 year offer was $1.2m which was the offer before his arrest.
We withdrew the offer and that was reported by several sources (Newcastle Herald still has the article). Then obviously the club changed their mind after a board meeting etc and made a new offer.
Even that original offer despite being 4 years wasn't too bad but now that it's probably 3 years at like $300k per year (maybe a bit less) I think it isn't too unreasonable for someone of his experience.
He is basically on his last chance if he screws up again so playing with a chip on his shoulder I hope he can turn it around here.

I don't particularly rate SKD or Moga, but getting both for two thirds of Gagai's new deal is good business.

Except for this thing with the coke Skd has a clean record as far as I can remember he has no record with the police that's why he had a no conviction and I cant remember him being in trouble with the NRL before ...I know he had trouble with his ex but that was proved to be her not him from what I read she was a nutcase ....
I'm glad he is here and I would play him and Moga if we get him at centre with Pete and Ross out side them , Skd's highlight reel shows him playing centre at least as much as winger if not more and they are both 6'4" and over 100 kg ..Both are good tacklers and surprisingly quick too....As everyone on here knows I like big centre's and these 2 fit the bill perfectly ....
