The discontent of a few with Brown got me thinking.

I can't say he is a good coach yet but I rank him above Stone and Hagan.

I'm just wondering what coaches we have had and in what order they should be ranked.

What has Brown done to get ahead of Smith?

David Waite is the most under rated Knights coach.
He was our reserve grade coach from 88 till 91 and firstgrade coach from 91 till 94.
The processes that developed players like the Johns brothers, including the first real use of video footage to study skills, and apply them to the game, happened under Waite.
Letting Joey try out all sorts of things that had never been seen in the game before was what Waite did best.
Rielly was a hard man who drove his squad to win a title, but the guy who gave them the skills to win that title was Waite.

    Mine are:

    1. Ryan
    2. Smith
    3. Brown
    4. Bennett
    5. Stone
    6. Hagan

I don't know enough about McMahon, Waite or Reilly

    It's all subjective.

88 - Hagan won a GF with Ryan's team. It was slowly down hill from there.

4yrs of finals footy major semi 3 times... yes joey was there but still.
Then took parra to new hights in 07 as well.

Sorry Brown at 36 games 3 win 1 draw 32 losses is world class "at the minute"

You have to take into consideration what we were like when they arrived and how they left us when they finished.

I think most people agree that Hagan was not a good coach. I assume Parra fans would agree.

K well hagen took over a team that had been in the finals bottom 8 then took them to a gf and followed it up by 3 more major semi games.
Then took parra from middle pack to the finals as well.

Brown took a team that went from 8 wins 16 losses with a mid season coach sacking to make them a 1 win 1 draw 22 losses and history breaking
And this yr is going gangbusters... i know.

Hagan is a good coach with the team he has, but his player recruitment and retention was the worst ever.
He over paid everyone, so ended up having to pull guys like George Carmont out of the local comp for 20k a season just to make up a team.

    Hmmm interesting view on Hagan.

I'm interested in the way you and others would rank our coaches.

    1 warren Ryan
    2 big mal
    3 hagan
    4 ole davey
    5 Smith
    6 Bennett
    7 Stone
    8 Brown

U can only go off results and statistics
So atm Brown is miles away from any of them.

U can say his cleaned out the deadwood which he has but in doing so his also turned us from a team that was somewhat competitive to a team that is laughed at.

Put it this way... if Brown got sacked at the end of this yr would any nrl club pick him up?

I don't think we can judge Brown yet.
The whole first year he wasn't even trying to win games. It was basically a year where he trialled players in different roles and positions every week.
This year he is trying to win and his putting his best side on the field every week, but he is using a fraction of the salary cap, and even most of the guys he has are being paid more for potential than their actual level of play.
The best sides are using double the cap we are using right now, so going close against them is actually a very good result.

    Thats exactly right!

But as the question was asked today i answered as of the minute.
His doing the right job for the club so credit where its due just hope he kicks some goals soon or things will get really ugly.

Brown has actually done a few remarkable things as a coach.
Bringing on the Saifiti brothers, Sione, Stone, Lamb, Levi and especially Phythian are really good efforts from a coach.
I've never seen anything like Phythian - he came into our squad at 19 as a park footballer and was looking like a polished firstgrader at 21.
Even Ross - the guy had a million bad habits and was looking like a raw talent who would never get a chance when Brown took over. He has come a long way under Brown.

His definitely kicked goal in that aspect,
Just needs some target signings to land and some more results on the park.
We cant not say his done what needed to be done as his done the hardest thing to do.... just needs some luck on recruiting and injuries a well.
