Newcastle Knights To Target Super League Star for 2019

Newcastle Knights’ war-chest of cash to transform them into title contenders could lead them into making an audacious move for Wigan and England stand-off George Williams.

Knights coach Nathan Brown is keen to bring in a couple of high-profile signings and it is understood that the NRL club is interested in Williams to partner Mitchell Pearce in 2019.

The Newcastle Knights would need to cover Wigan’s transfer fee, which many believe would not come cheap for the Warriors marquee player. The figure to believe to be around the £300,000 ($395,000 AU) and a figure that the Knights are understood to happy to pay if they could secure the England International.

Negotiations between the Newcastle Knights , Wigan Warriors and Williams management are expected to continue during the coming weeks, but reports from members close to Williams have stated that the Wigan Star is interested in the potential switch to the NRL.

He’s 23 plays halves or hooker and is a goal kicker.

From reading he seems like a bit of a future star hopefully. Wouldn’t say no to more star power.

I'd be happy to offer him a contract but not 1st grade NRL half money. 1 or 2 years at 400-500k a season and upgrade if he proved himself over here.

Plus his transfer fee of $395000?
that would mean we are paying 795-895k for him.
If Brown and Mooney think he is worth it, im happy with it.

I don’t know what numpty is working out that exchange rate but I’d be happy to buy £300k for $400k!! Many times over and then retire! Seems like a crap story and not a priority position unless we’re talking 14 jersey.

It’s like the same people who said Watson is being shopped around. The hype is off with everything at the moment

If they are looking at him as a hooker I could see a need.
Pommy halves don't cut it in the NRL - Michael Dobson is a star over there.

That is first grade NRL half money bro. Not rep money but definitely generous for your run of the mill.

I honestly think he could have been good for us but never seemed to get a chance, was always a cut above in the reggies and decent in his limited appearances for us.

Don't forget this guy is the current English 5/8 he is 23 and plays half and Hooker and there is huge raps on him over there ...Personally I haven't seen him play but he must be pretty good with what is being said about him and playing for England

Sam Tonkins was meant to carve the NRL up too, and he was the best player in the ESL for a long time. I’m optimistic but, would prefer if they found another Burgess clone over there.

Sam Tompkins was overhyped and the warriors office was a dumpster fire who overrated him. And bought in a player who didn’t fit in with their no structure style of play at all. Burgess lived up to the hype eventually imo.

Have my reservations considering how Wardle went but it wasn’t really a big loss considering we offloaded Mamo.
