2018 Test Series: Australia vs South Africa

5//225 bad light stopped play.

How good a score this is will only bbe known when the Proteas bat. Looks a slow wicket which may take spin and they bat last. Another hundred may well be a very good result.

My original thoughts were that 350-400 puts Australia on top

Still got plenty of work to do to get there but you never know, 300 may be a good score

At tea, when I went to bed, would settle for 6-250 with bad light that's about it, looking for 300+ and very happy.
Always think of 300 as pass mark and if you can score 600 for both innings you might not win but you will rarely loose.

Being an old fellah I can't stay up that late Frank.

My Corgi dog wants to hit the cot at 8pm which is margnially better than Big Dog I guess!

Don't know how and why Bancroft is getting so many chances to prove himself when Renshaw didn't. To me Renshaw is a classic opening bat.

Sadly this game is losing its traditions because of the shorter versions of the game and run rates now need to be at 4+ from the outset.

I fear Renshaw won't get a decent go at it because of his style of play. Top opening batsmen.

LUNCH - DAY 2

Australia - 8/300 from 101.4 overs (RR 2.95)

Cameron Bancroft - 5 (20)
David Warner - 51 (79)
Usman Khawaja - 14 (19)

Shaun Marsh - 40 (96)
Mitch Marsh - 60* (147)
Tim Paine - 25 (72)
Pat Cummins - 3 (38)
Mitchell Starc - 35 (25)

Morne Morkel - 0/75 (22 overs)
Vernon Philander - 2/40 (23 overs)
Keshav Maharaj - 4/103 (30.4 overs)
Kagiso Rabada - 2/63 (23 overs)
Aiden Markram - 0/2 (1 over)
Theunis de Bruyn - 0/6 (2 overs)

301 is the average score in Tests at this ground batting first so anymore runs after lunch are a bonus

We also have the advantage in the fact that SA will have to bat last

Dangerous to judge a pitch until both teams have batted on it but I reckon we have a good score here

351 is a good score, Over to the bowlers now

Felt sorry for Mitch Marsh he really deserved a century

Mitch played well, score better than I had hoped, bowlers job now, SA need 400+ batting last, will settle for 3-150 at stumps assuming full day's play, not sure about the pitch.

Nathan Lyon - 3/50 (16 overs)

South Africa trail by 189 runs

Pleasing the Proteas will have to bat last after avoiding the follow-on and with three days to go we should wrap it up by batting all day tomorrow.

What a day Mitchell Starc had scoring 35 and with Mitch Marsh bringing up that 350, then five wickets.

Nathan Lyon has climbed up another place on the list for all time leading wicket takers for Australia

He has overtaken Craig McDermott and is now chasing Brett Lee

Steve Smith and David Warner are climbing the list of our all time leading run scorers too, They should both overtake Mike Hussey in this series
