The Lurker
Buzz Rothfield revealed in last weekend's Sunday Telegraph that Newcastle was poised to target a VERY big-name.
Well, I am here to tell you that very player is Cronulla's Jack Bird.
The Knights, with young star Kalyn Ponga having already signed, now want Bird - and they reckon they can get him.
Bird, who debuted for NSW this year, comes off contract at Cronulla after next season and is on the radar of a host of clubs.
But money talks and Newcastle is ready to outlay big, big money for Bird.
And Ponga's shock signing has shown the rugby league world that Newcastle mean business.

And then this report
But speaking at Wednesday’s launch of the Auckland Nines in Sydney, Bird gave Cronulla fans great hope he’d be remaining in the Shire.
“I just want to be comfortable where I am. I’m happy to stay at the Sharks, I want to stay at the Sharks,” he said.
"I'm not really demanding that much, to be honest. I'm not that kind of guy. I just like playing footy.
“If I got offered minimum wage I’d probably play. It’s just for the love of the sport.
“Hopefully by the start of the (2017) season it will be sorted.”
