Knights have bombed two tries in the second half. This would be very close if they had held the ball.

Heath Gibbs gets his second.
I've always been a fan of Gibbs (since last year anyway). Don't know why he hasn't got much game time this year.

Most of the key players and over half this side will play SG Ball again next year unless they are called up to NYC.
Starling, O'Hagan, Dark, Jones, Gibbs and some others will all be one year older and one year better next year.

It should also be mentioned that our best two under 18 players were busy playing NYC this year. Lamb and Cogger would have destroyed this comp.

It will be interesting to see which players get a run in NYC this year.
With Levi injured, they could probably do with Starling this week, and Levi will probably need a second hooker all season.
O'Hagan might be the backup half if either Lamb or Cogger have to play reps or something.
Barker could fill in on the wings or even at fullback if a spot comes up.
Butterfield might get a bench spot, as might Jones, Dark and Stone.
We haven't used many Ball players in recent years, and most of those guys are a year young, so maybe only one or two will get a run.

O'Hagan is no chance of playing NYC this year as he doesn't turn 17 until the end of October. All the other boys are a definite chance at some stage of this year as they are all quality players (and quality blokes too!!!) and look to have big futures in the game.

really dont think any of the young BALL players are up to NYC yet, lets just hope when the BALL trials are held at the end of the season that the Knights dont invite every man and his dog and give the guys who have been part of the system the last couple of years more of a chance to show their wares, because its suppose to be about development

Lot's of love for Starling and none for Jones or O'Hagan.
I hope he can step into Levi's boots in NYC next year.

Starling named SG Ball Player of the Year

Tue 15th September, 08:21AM

Newcastle Knights SG Ball player Tom Starling claimed one of the major junior rep awards for season 2015 at the New South Wales Rugby League awards night, held on Monday night at The Star.

Starling was named SG Ball Player of the Year and shared the stage with other award winners such as Josh Dugan, who won the prestigious Brad Fittler Medal.

The night recognised the achievements of players across all NSWRL teams and competitions, from Origin to seniors, juniors, women and Indigenous, as well as the contributions of referees and club officials.

“Tonight was a wonderful way to celebrate the success of rugby league in NSW, from the grassroots to the elite level,” said NSWRL chief executive David Trodden said.

“I congratulate all the award winners for their outstanding achievements.

It’s truly a wonderful reflection on the organisation and its direction.”

If Starling grows to a decent size he should be just as good as Levi in a few years.
