The Daily Telegraph has published their list of the top 50 players of the NRL era (1998-present)

Not sure on who the judges were, All the article says is "15 judges from NSW and Queensland ranked their top 50 players from the modern era"

Also the criteria to be eligible are as follows:

A strict criteria was involved and every player included in the list had to play a minimum of 100 games in the NRL, which ruled out a number of stars who had played most of their career prior to that.

It meant that players such as Laurie Daley, Kevin Walters and Glenn Lazarus, all out and out champions did not fall into the category with the bulk of their career played prior to 1998.

with what 600+ players reaching this criteria surely Ben Barba , Tonie Carroll arent top 50 but okay whatever

I would have Cronk higher

How they selected Tallis, Inglis and SBW above him is beyond me

Inglis too inconsistent, Tallis was good but not top 10 and SBW has only played 2 seasons of NRL since 2005

They’ve done a decent job but there are a few that I disagree with. I’d have Scott and Lewis a fair bit higher definitely.

This is not a fantastic list...Not even a great one, not even a good one

I thought Fairfax were the only ones biased towards SBW, a player with a six year resume and quit when the going got tough is NOT a top 10 player in anyones eyes, I dont care how physically gifted they are.

Darren Lockyer at 3 is a tad high, him playing 2 positions is one of the most overrated aspects that cloud his standings as a player as he is like most of the 2nd 5/8 fullbacks running around these days. As an individual player blokes Thurston and Slater were far more brilliant then Lockyer.

Paul Gallen at #20 after it was common knowledge that he was a peptide user is laughable. Let me guess that was one of the token Sharks players that Buzz insisted had to be there?

There are so many average players in this list it's not funny. It's like they ran out of ideas so they went and put a whole bunch of Broncos players in because they won premiereships. Thorn, Boyd? LOL

Jamie Lyon was pretty much the best centre in the world in the early 2000s and Hayne plays in one good Eels team that gets to a GF and is better then him? Hahaha

Just not a very well thought out list at all.

Plus Brad Clyde played less than 100 games from 1998 onwards therefore he was ineligible

Are you serious mate? Barba despite being a flea is easily in the top handful of gifted individuals and carried the dogs to a GF and along with Fifita one sharks their maiden premiership.

Carrol was a beast in defence for an age for the Bronco's and QLD, well deserved IMO.

Not saying they aren't good players I was just shocked that of all the players that have played since '98 that there isn't more players ahead of them. There have been a few suggestions better than some of those in the top 50 I'm actually surprised their haven't been more.
