Looks as though angus critchon is on his way to the roosters from 2019. The cards are starting to fall our way to get Cordner in the red and blue!

Word is when we were negotiating with pearce we were confirming with him some potential future targets. Im sure boyd was at the top of that list.

Having pearce watson skd and guerra already here talking to cordner informing him about how everything is going can only help.

Think its only a matter of time before the new captain is a knight!
 
Been whispers of the Roosters trying to offload Cordner since mid season. His knee is done and the Roosters know it apparently. That's if you believe forum talk.

Time will tell but where there is smoke there is fire.

Knights wont fall for that again will they??

Have to get 3 medial opinions and clearances before they sign any player after the money they wasted on Trent.
 
Cordner is captain NSW SOO, can't believe the Roosters would let him go unless he has serious injury problems or complete madness takes over the bidding war.
I know some on here have said he is a local junior but unless we have dramatic changes, us to top 8 and Roosters to fail to threaten then can't see it happening.
Besides his position is our strongest, yes he would improve it, if fit, but we have other areas that require improving.

I tend to agree don’t think he would be worth the big cash for what we need. Hell of a leader though.

His brother played in the local comp this year I think, and his cousins are in our juniors - Kurtis Dark plays second row in under 20s and Joel Dark should be in the under 18s squad this year. Both the Dark boys have played for NSW at under 16 level.

Boyd was contracted to the Knights when he was 15, but stayed at school in Taree and only came down for 1 game in our under 16s. His older brother was also contracted to the Knights and boarded in Newcastle and went to Hunter Sports High.
Boyd came to everyone's attention when picked for the catholic side to play in the schoolboys championships in the under 18s side when he was 15. His older brother was picked in the public school side. Boyd was one of the stars of the comp and I think was the youngest playing, so the Roosters made him a big offer.

He's one of my favourite players.
But his knee issues are concerning.
Didn't he have stem cell surgery or something strange on his knee after the world cup? Doesn't sound good. Especially if the Roosters are willing to let him go.
 
Nick do you mean three medial (ligament) clearances, or three medical clearances. Very hard to pick if medial ligament repairs are a success or not until fully tested in a game, side stepping, tackling and being tackled and twisted.

I'd take Crichton over Cordner already, no brainer.
 
When healthy, Cordner is arguably the best second rower in the game IMO. Very classy player. If they’ve just gone out and signed Crichton to $1M per year but, maybe he’s not healthy and there’s something to his knee problems.

I’m a huge Crichton fan. Told anyone who was willing to listen early last season before he was a household name that they should watch this kid closely. Special talent. On par if not better than Hess who was being super hyped (and deservedly so at the time). Then he had a breakout game and all of a sudden he was on everyone’s radar. Was getting texts saying “that’s your boy”. Went from a nobody to the next big thing. Suffice to say, I’m a big fan, especially since I feel like I spotted this kid before anyone else could even spell his name. This conversation is ironic, because I vividly remember saying this kid looks like a young Boyd Cordner, which was a huge wrap at the time when people were asking “who”.

In saying all of that, the most attractive quality Crichton has is his youth and potential. He had a great season and came on in leaps and bounds, so it’s only natural to speculate how high his ceiling could be. To put him above Cordner (if healthy) right now but is very premature IMO. His peak could ultimately be higher than Cordner’s, but even him reaching his potential, it would be amazing if he was at Cordner’s level where he’s the NSW captain and one of the first players picked in the Kangaroos squad every year. Crichton’s a stud now and IMO a future rep star, but let’s not put him on a pedestal and above Cordner because he still has a ways to go before reaching that pinnacle. Let’s see how he backs up his 2017 season next year and how he goes at the rep level against the best on the biggest stage.

I think Cordner is elite. Crichton is working to get there.
 
Knights keen on Cordner for 2019

SYDNEY Roosters captain Boyd Cordner has revealed his stem-cell knee procedure was a success and he is set to return to training early next month.

As Newcastle prepare to launch a bid for the NSW Origin captain, Cordner has been dealing with uncertainty over a debilitative knee injury.

However, these concerns have been tempered following a revolutionary stem cell injection after Australia’s successful World Cup campaign.

Surgeons injected Cordner’s own fat tissue — via liposuction — into the affected tendon.

The Roosters back-rower hopes the stem-cell procedure will accelerate the regeneration of damaged cartilage in his knee.

Injuries, including a ruptured pectoral, have limited Cordner to just 30 games for the Roosters in the past two seasons.

Cordner remains confident of a full recovery to start the 2018 season.

“I’ll be at training on the 5th of January and I will ease back into it,” Cordner told The Sunday Telegraph.

“But I’ll be in full training by the end of January.

“I didn’t have to have surgery. It was just a stem cell injection, so I didn’t have to go under the knife at all. It is going really well.”

Cordner’s Kangaroos teammate Aaron Woods had the surgery in 2013 and said it had helped resurrect his career.

Trent Hodkinson and Cordner’s new Roosters teammate James Tedesco have also had success with stem cells to repair injured knees.

It comes as the Roosters have started talks to re-sign Cordner on a multi-year deal to fend off strong interest from Newcastle and the Gold Coast.

Cordner is off-contract at the end of 2018 and the Roosters want to secure his services long-term.

The only problem is they face a fight with the Knights keen to land his signature.

Cordner was born in Taree and played his junior league for the Red Rovers and the Old Bar Pirates.

These Hunter connections have prompted Newcastle coach Nathan Brown to court the representative back-rower for several seasons.

It’s understood the Knights’ influx of former Roosters, including Mitchell Pearce, Connor Watson and Aidan Guerra, will play a leading role in trying to lure their former teammate to the red and blues in 2019.

He debuted at 17 from memory. Super advanced. Health permitting he could have an 18 year career
 
Twenty six in June this year. You put your head in the pigs for a decade or so the wear is apparent!
