33, I never knew he was so old! I suppose he was pretty close to retirement anyway. At least he went out in style! haha

But he'll definitely go down as a big big wasted talent. Typical stupid Queenslander.

Anyone else see Symonds on the drink again at the Titans game tonight? That guy won't stop!

He will. But only in the IPL. Let them deal with his alcoholism.

Can you even buy alcohol in India? lol

I think so, but they actually discourage drinking in the IPL by players, Warnie learnt this the hard way

That he went out with some mates, had a few drinks with his girlfriend.

Yes, that is very stupid and dissapointing.

His career is close to over, he did nothing wrong by this.

You must be able to, because Jesse Ryder fell off the wagon when he was over at the IPL.

Yeah, it's not really a huge drama ... just repeat minor offences by Symonds have given Cricket Aus no choice.

I don't think he's ever done anything serious enough to have the police involved, has he?

I laughed when Sports tonight showed footage of him at the Titans game last night drinking what appeared to be a beer. The guy just wants to enjoy a beer every now and then like most aussies and he is said to have a 'drinking problem', mind you many people would considered most australians have drinking problems haha

When you are too hungover to make appointments to do with work, like training, etc, then I think you do have a drinking problem. Well, if it happens repeatedly, as it has for Symonds.

Interesting, looks like Symonds could make much more than he is right now and is expected to retire from international cricket:

Andrew Symonds could earn up to one million rand ($120,000) for less than two months' work in South Africa's domestic 50- and 20-over leagues if, as expected, he reinvents himself as the world's first freelance Twenty20 player. The Australian allrounder, who is expected to announce his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday, has already received expressions of interest from Pro20 franchises in South Africa, and could feasibly participate in four domestic 20-over tournaments across the globe next year.

Deccan Chargers, the defending IPL champions, have already declared their intention to retain Symonds' services at the princely sum of $1.35 million per season. Symonds' home state, Queensland, are also seeking to keep him on their books, and speculation in England is rife that the controversial allrounder could join the county ranks in the near future.

Should he become cricket's first notable Twenty20 mercenary , Symonds' earnings could dwarf those he stood to earn under his current Cricket Australia deal. A reduction in his bowling workload could also extend his playing career, and his global exposure may go some way to restoring his marketability, which has taken a sizeable hit after a slew of recent controversies.

There is no way he would be short on money. As the article says he's only gotta go over to the IPL - not even perform well and still earn over a million in a one off bash.

It could be the start of a trend.

Symonds contract withdrawn, replaced by Shaun Tait.

I would have given it to Phil Jaques.

Maybe he should turn to league? haha

ANDREW SYMONDS has swapped the green and gold of Australia for the green and red of Queensland's Wynnum-Manly rugby league club to fulfil a dream, The Courier-Mail reports.

Symonds has had his Cricket Australia contract ripped up for breaking team rules but that means he is now free to play sports deemed too risky for his physical wellbeing when he was a CA contracted player.

Top of the list was rugby league, the sport he loves so passionately he once considered giving away cricket to try out for the Brisbane Broncos.

Symonds made a surprise appearance at Kougari Oval in Brisbane yesterday for a Wynnum-Manly old boys side against a Men of League All Stars team which included former Test centre Steve Renouf and Manly star Ben Kennedy.

Although it was only a gently-paced semi-social game, Symonds felt some pressure to perform but never looked out of place.

"I couldn't sleep last night," said Symonds, who was playfully jeered by the crowd in the grandstand bar when he dropped the first pass to come his way but proceeded to play well.

Former St George hooker Trevor Bailey said he liked Symonds' style.

"He has got a bit of pace and strength - if he had played league he would have played wing or centre and being the athlete he is might have done well," Bailey said.
