Unfortunately I don't watch as much as I probably should.
I go for the Lakers, who beat Utah 113-100 in their first play off game of the series.
Anyone else follow it?

This takes me back to the mid 90s with the basketball card boom, MJ and the Bulls, Shaq when he was with the Magic, their foray into Canada with Toronto and Vancouver (who are now in Memphis), and Ten's total coverage with both the NBA and NBL.
Can't wait for Southern Cross Ten to pull their fingers out of their backside and put One on the air out here...when I get a job, pay TV might soon follow...

im a cavs fan, not a bandwagon fan, been going for em since about 04 or 05, before they even made the finals with Lebron, actually i think the first yr i started following it was the first yr they made the finals in a long time. Lebron might have had something to do with my choosing though
anways they are looking good this year, Mo Williams has been almost buy of the season, cause really he is the difference between our 47 win season last yr, and our 66 win season this yr. Our side this yr is 100x better then the side that got beaten 4-0 in the NBA finals in 06, and with lebron now playing 48 minutes a game if needed we will be unstopable

I'm a Suns fan, worst season for a while, I love the guys in the team at te moment but I also loved them 10-15 years ago which probably explains why they missed the playoffs - they're old.
As for the NBA, I've watched a game pretty much everyday since I got to China in January, they love it here & there's nothing else I can watch on TV. As long as the Lakers, Celtics, Mavs, or Spurs (gone!) don't win than it's alright. And I'm not a really a fan of Kobe or Lebron but those two going head-to-head in the Finals would be something special.

I don't think the Lakers will have any problem going one step further than last year. I'm just surprised they dropped one against the Jazz.

Along with Lebron continuing to improve, especially on defense. I'd say Mo Williams almost behind Chauncey Billups for best acquisition.

Yeah looks like the Lakers to win it. Celtics are screwed with no KG, it would have to be Lebron or an extremely good series from the Nuggets to stop the Lakers.

TBH, the suns have made some critical mistakes.
Firstly, sacking Porter was a terrible decision. The suns wern't travelling that bad. Ontop of that it has been the first season in along time that the suns could take on top teams. As barkley would say "turrible".
Secondly, Bell and Diaw for Richardson? Strengthen the top 5 by all means, but they just killed their defence. Bell and Diaw were the best defensive players the suns had (doesn't say much...). The suns left themselves with far to much offensive power that they just didn't need, (they have nash putting up 20 dishes a game, as if they need richardson?) and no strength on the other end.
There are a few teams that i am a big fan of and the suns are one. Mainly because of the players. Amare, Shaq, Bell, Diaw, Barbosa, Nash... that is entertainment +... Pity they are more entertaining than good.
The bulls/celtics series has been the best series i have seen in a long time. 4/6 games in over time :D.
I would love to see Wade grab another ring, pity his only two supporting cast are an aging Haslem and a rookie in Beasley. O'neal is a hack IMO. On his day he can be anything... pity his day has happened once or twice the whole season.
As for titles, Cavs look unbeatable.

The worst mistake was probably sacking Dantoni, or trading Marion away (as much as I love Shaq). It sounds as though the players had lost interest in Porter & ultimately he had to go, maybe a good coach but not with this lineup & the mentality of the players. They definitely played more exciting ball after Gentry came in so I was all for it. I'm not a fan of what Sarver has done/threatened to do, it will interesting to see where they go from here. I mainly like them for their style of play so I'm hoping they stick with Gentry.

They are the most exciting team in the NBA. Only the Trailblazers come close. BUT, the trailblazers can also Dup. The Shaq Marion trade, not so bad imo. Shaqs season speaks for itself i think. IMO, Porter would have been much better than Gentry because he is a defensive coach and lets face it, Suns play some d and they are top 4.
I don't mind sacking Tony, because he had many years and kept folding at the playoffs. I like it when NBA teams roll the dice.
In theory the suns made a great move. They can score 130 points a match, so they figure if they d up they will be at the top... shame it didn't end that way eh?
I don't think i have seen an NBA first round finale that i have been more excited about! Bring it on!
I don't mind teams rolling the dice but I think Porter was the wrong fit, he put too much emphasis on fixing the d & with the offensively minded roster they had it just didn't work, all that happened was their offense got worse & that's what made them decent.
Now they are in a hole because they changed things to suit Porter but have gone back to the Dantoni system with Gentry. What's done is done, be interesting to see what happens next season, I hope they stick with what they have as the end to the season was fun to watch at least.

Not too much time to regroup, next game in two days. It will be interesting to see how much this series has taken out of them, didn't hurt them too much last year. Maybe the series will even have a postive effect for them, they know what they're in for to do defend their title.

At this stage i think the Celtics winning will be an upset, I reckon Orlando in 6
Orlando should have killed them today, had the chance to make a big statement by blowing them out. Celtics are struggling but they're the defending champs. It got ugly at times but was fun to watch, interesting series - hard to pick.
I expected Houston to be a tough matchup for the Lakers but didn't expect them to win Game 1... Lakers in for a fight.

They'll definitely have a harder test than they've had so far. Detroit were never going to trouble them & Atlanta looked like they may push them yesterday, had a big roll on then Zaza got ejected & they fell to pieces.
Boston are the champions & have showed, both last year & this year, that they won't go down without a fight.

LeBron is going to have to show his all around game to beat Orlando, he isn't going to be able to score as freely in the paint with Dwight in his way.

Cavs bench was MIA, Dwight was a monster in the paint. Great game to watch right from Dwight's opening dunk. Orlando now with the homecourt advantage.

There were two games that went to overtime; Orlando should have won them both in regulation. Lakers were a much better team though.
Most years the Finals are a blowout, last year the Celtics were far too good for the Lakers. Two years ago the Spurs swept the Cavs, last time Orlando made the Finals in 1995 they were swept, it's happened a few times.

Good pick up for them, they are a very young team and will only get better with time. They will be a force in the NBA for a long time to come if they stick together, esp Brandon Roy.
Mills was projected 1st round after his strong Olympic games, but i think he suffured an injury which is why his value slid a little

I always thought basketball was a load of crap...I think I grew to hate it when the Brisbane Bullets were the flavour of the month up here before the Broncos started.
Anyway, was in the US early this year and went to a Cleveland Cavaliers game...the first round of the conference playoffs versus Orlando. Sat in the second back row but let me tell you the joint was rockin'.
Had a cracker of a night. LeBron James is an unbelievable athlete. Now I'm hooked and hope the Cavs win it all this year.
Guess the moral is just about any top level sport is great if you're there...except maybe soccer!

Can't agree there
Even A-League is awesome when you are in the active support section.
I couldn't imagine how good it would be with 60k at the Emirates singing their hearts out

I don't know...0-0 is still not enough to keep me awake. Maybe if some idiot let off a flare next to me.
One other caveat...it's best when the home team wins, or is at least competitive. I've been to an NFL game where the home team got soundly beaten, and half the crowd was gone by three quarter time.

Im a huge fan of the NBA, always have been. I used to follow the Bulls when i was a kid, purely cos of Michael Jordan. No player will ever be what he was.
These days I support the Cavs, missus and I are planning a US holiday next year, and I want to travel to Cleveland even just for a day or 2, just to watch a home game. I think the atmosphere of an NBA game would be second to none.
Kobe Bryant is a great ball player, and he can talk it up now, because he simply is the best in the game, followed by LeBron. But does anyone remember the All Star game 1997 or 1998 i think it was, wen he talked it up that he would smoke MJ, Then Michael came out and showed him how it was done. Classic

You will love it. I was lucky enough to be in Cleveland May last year, and saw game one of the conference finals against Orlando (which unfortunately the Cavs lost). Two days later, the Cavs beat the Magic with LeBron hitting a three pointer on the buzzer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fD1MNjkPFs
Unfortunately I wasn't there for that one, but I watched it in a bar in Columbus and the place went beserk. I was never a basketball fan, but I was converted that week in Ohio.
Go Cavs!
BTW, if you go to Cleveland you have to check out the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Cleveland is actually a really nice city (in the Spring!), and the Quicken Loans arena is right in town, so the whole area was buzzing with people in bars and restaurants before and after the game.
Boston Celtics beat Miami Heat 85-76 in Game 1 of the opening round of the 2010 playoffs.

Lakers def. Celtics 102 - 89. Big turnaround needed by the Celtics.. they gave up way too many offensive boards and they need to find a way to shut Kobe down without leaving any other holes open because this Lakers team is strong enough to exploit even the tiniest of weaknesses.

Wade and Bosh in Miami with James a good possibility of joining them. What a trio that would be. James to make his decision by tomorrow night apparently. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Amare Stoudemire signs with Knicks too.

Heat are going to be the Eastern conf. winners next year for sure. Going to be interesting to see them play, but the 3 of them are used to be 1 pony shows and now the 3 have to share the 1 spotlight. Ive followed James since he started, hope they go well

This is going to be something to watch, James likes having a large % of the ball so does Wade & Bosh ...... The heat will take time to gell ..... my tip is that the Magic will be the winner in the East & the Lakers in the West for next season, plus James really made a joke in the way he done this contract & having an one hour show on ESPN, when he just could of joined Wade & Bosh in there media conference on Tuesday!!!!
Plus LeBron is moving to Wades house, he won't be the centre piece at the Heat and when he retires he won't be talked about in the same way as Magic Johnston, Jordan, Shaq or Kobe Bryant ...... He had a chance to stay at Cleveland or move to the Bulls (the Bulls most likely will win a lot of championships in the next 2-3 years with Rose & Noah in Bulls set up), Nets, Knicks or Clippers & be the main man at those franchise's to lead something really amazing..... But anything that Miami does in the next 3-5 years will be seen as Dwayne Wades team ...... Not LeBron James team!!!!

Bulls are a good young team, but I can't see them winning anything in the near future, even with the addition of Boozer.
As for Miami, yeah it's Wade's team, but that's not gonna stop the James ball washing, and if they win any championships, that's just gonna take it to a whole new level. With the way the media portrays James, he's gonna be getting the majority of the limelight in Miami, regardless of what Wade does IMO.

Tragedy for the Cavs to lose LeBron...and tragic for the city of Cleveland.
I hope the Cavs recover from this.
I tell you one thing, hats off to the Cavs owner Dan Gilbert for his public slamming of LeBron.
http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/news/gilbert_letter_100708.html
Sure it was emotional and more than a little irrational...but if the Knights ever have to go down the path of private ownership I'd be glad to have someone with the passion (not to mention the bankroll!) of Dan Gilbert owning the team.

Personally, I thought it was uncalled. Yeah James went overboard with the whole one hour special thing on ESPN, but that's mostly ESPN. The media ball washes James so much that ESPN probably came up with the idea and threw massive money at him. What's he gonna do? Knock it back? Yeah the whole thing comes across as selfish and makes James look like a massive douche with all the camers and spotlight on him, but Dan Gilbert's comments were uncalled for. Only reason he said what he said was because he was bitter he couldn't re-sign his once upon a time love child. Dan Gilbert's a bigger douche than LeBron. Get over it and stop crying like a 7 year old school girl who fell over and scraped their knee. You'd have to be mentally retarded not to sign on with Miami and play alongside both Wade and Bosh, as appose to the scrubs in Cleveland. Not to mention the lifestyle Miami offers too. Dan Gilbert, wash the sand outta your vagina before you decide to open your mouth again.

Well Jordan was not a 1 man team, like James was with the Cav's n woulda been at the clippers or Nets etc. Jordan had Pippen as a full time wingman, Rodman, Grant, Armstrong. He always had great talent next to him. The Bulls didnt start winning until Jordan started passing, and playing with his team mates, instead of being a show pony. Same with the Lakers.
3 Years back Garnett and Allen went to the Celtics, they won the title that year, It was Paul Pierce's team b4 that, but it was the BIG 3 that won the title, thats how the heats dynasty would be remembered hear, not Wade and his 2 pals, besides, count on wade sitting out 1/4 at least of the season with an injury, the guy loves the injury roster.
Kobe has Artest, Fischer, Gasol, Odem
DUncan has Ginoboli, Parker, Hill etc
Nash (had/has) Stoudemire, Hill
Celtics have retained Rondo, Peirce, Garnett and Allen
All these are quality teams, none of which are run by 1 man, Kobe might think so, be he wouldnt have won titles without the help of key players.

Man, there was that much hype about James' going to, that a normal press conference woulda been an anticlimax to the build up, ESPN knew it would get veiwers of such a thing, they knew it would draw a crowd, and he wouldnt have done it for free, good on em him, he's making his fortune, and has been quoted saying in 20 years he wants to be 1 of the richest men in the world. He coulda stayed at Cavs for more money, but doesnt wanna be the scapegoat when they lose, and the hero when they win. Unless the rest of the roster changed dramatically, they would never have won a title
