Surprised that there is no thread on it so far tbh

Only thing happened so far is he has been suspended for 3 months by USA Swimming, which is pretty much a slap on the wrist.

If he was a footballer of any sort he'd surely be sacked by his club, de-registered by the league etc.

But no, cause he has won 12 gold medals in the Olympics, he is allowed to do whatever he wants.

I hate him more than Rafael Nadal, Tony Greig and Kevin Peitersen combined.

Look - I will say this now. I am aware of NRL Players smoking pot.

Marijuana is something that can be hidden so very easily.

Michael Phelps would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for a photo. So it begs the question, if we see him 'conquering' so well.

What else is he up to?

Heh, I lived with a dormie who looked a little like Michael Phelps.

But seriously, that's poor form. I hope his sponsors leave him in droves as a result.

I know NRL players are on more than marijuana. It's a fact. Not a big deal tbh. Ye sure, its a bad image for those who idolise him, but ****, he's only human. It's not as if he's hurt someone.

Yes I know it's illegal but pot is nothing it's not performance enhancing or deadly a 3 month suspension is pretty harsh imo

3 months is harsh in american sports, i think NFL has a 4 week ban for first offence for marajuana, Pretty sure NFL only has a four game suspension for testing positive to steroids for the first time too.

Pot can be bad for your health, but hey so can cigarettes, its his own choice he is doin it.

Don't they say it is meant to lead to taking harder drugs?

Pretty stupid of him, but it's pretty commonplace ... can't be too condemning of it, I spose.

Slap on the wrist is all he should get, it's forgotten a week later. There are, no doubt, plenty of professional athletes that smoke dope.

A-Roid, now that's another story. I don't care too much for baseball but I hope baseball fans never forget what he's done and never let hin forget it too. What a lame admission/apology he made.

but werent roids legal back around those times in the MLB? There was heaps of controversy when Barry Bonds broke the record for homeruns cause he tested positive too.

I believe he was taking what Robbie O'Davis got his suspension for ... except it was legal in baseball at that time.

It's a gateway drug as James said. I personally don't care about this sorta stuff at all, but I can see why people make a big deal out of it.

Smoking would have diminished his chances of swimming his best, so it didn't help him in any way. He has probably done it many times before anyway, so I wouldn't worry about this usage leading to other drugs. He's already been there and done that imo.

I read something the other day that if you do it then it increases your chances of getting testicular cancer by 70%! :O

It seems like anything you do these days greatly increases your risk of getting some form of cancer.
