Deadset, when Ian Thorpe give Swimming up... I thought Swimming would take forever to re-build.
Hello Eamon Sullivan!

Where the hell are we producing these people from?

Jodie Henry is out of the Games through Injury, and for someone like Alice Mills to miss out.
Gotta love the Swimming.

Yeah i thought the same thing about the Aussie swin team after thorpe, Klim, huegill and justin norris called it quits but obviously we are really stocked to the rafters when it comes to awesome swimers. On that note i was pumped to see emily seebohm do so well at the trials. I was good mates with her brother when i was at school, i tell you now she is nothing like the skinny little girl that used to come watch her brother play cricket.

I don't know, we aren't very good at most things apart from rugby! We had Danyon Loader, he won two gold medals at the Olympics in 1996.

I was listening to the match on ABC over the internet when all of a sudden, in the 1st half, they said "let's go over to the pool to listen to Eamon Sullivan". I'm swearing at the computer, "No, bugger the swimming - back to the rugby!!!". Luckily it was all over in about 20 seconds. I half expected 5 minutes of splashing sounds and an over excited commentator ruining my Knights feed!!
Haha Pommie, I know how you felt last week. I was outraged, i was shouting 'GIVE ME BACK MY FOOTY!'. :p

Australia's team to take to the Olympics
AUSTRALIAN Swimming has nominated a 42-person team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, starting August 8.
Led by team captain Grant Hackett, the squad will head to China with high hopes after setting eight world records at the selection trials in Sydney this week.
Hackett, Adam Pine, Ashley Callus and Leisel Jones have all been selected to make their third appearances at an Olympic Games.
Brisbane schoolgirl Emily Seebohm is the youngest member of the team at 15, and Pine, at 32, is the oldest member.
There are 26 rookies named in the team of 20 men and 22 women. Veteran butterflyer Pine said 2008 selection felt just as special as his previous Olympic teams and urged his fellow teammates to enjoy the moment.
"It is just as exciting as ever,'' said Pine. "You're an Olympian forever, so just enjoy it and keep smiling.''

It will be interesting when USA have their trials in June ( i think it is). With the new suits, i wouldnt be surprised if they smash a few world records aswell. It normally tends to be AUS v USA in the pool.
I only really watch the Olympics in the pool. Its the best sport in the Olympics!
Phelps vs Sullivan
No doubt the USA are going to take back a few World Records.

I'm with you, thats my fav. I like when the games are on, always something interesting.. I got the chicken pox for the 1992 games and the measles for the 96 so I got to see quite a bit of those games lol.
Anyone else go to see the sydney games? I saw the Cathy freeman 400m win. Pretty exciting stuff :)

We have a swimmer who's good!!!! Liam Tancock broke the 50m backstroke world record today - I knew we had a couple of decent swimmers. There's also a 13 year old kid who's a phenom at diving - Tom Daley - he's the new European 10m diving champion!!!!
One of my life ambitions is to go to an Olympic games and I reckon I'm not going to get a better chance than in 2012. There's a bit of a hoo-haa about the Olympics only benefitting London, so the other parts of the UK are clamouring for a bit of the Olympic pie. Coincidentally, there's a programme on BBC's North East England regional TV about how Newcastle benefitted from the Sydney games. Spooky or what? I might record that.

well there is more sport to poke a stick at, Ch7 and SBS are pretty much having full-day coverage. SBS are focusing on a few of the lesser sports which are always interesting to watch
I went to the Olympics in 2000, went to see the athletics at a packed stadium AUS. It was a 7 hour session too whcih was awsome, Highlight was that Ji Terima getting Silver in the long for AUS.

Kobe Bryant tries to get past CJ Bruton. (Reuters: Aly Song)
United States basketball star Kobe Bryant says Australia is the best team he has faced in the lead-up to the Beijing Olympics.
Team USA held off a tough Boomers outfit 87-76 in Shanghai on Tuesday evening, with Miami Heat shooting guard Dwyane Wade scored nine points in the fourth quarter to hold off a second half three-point barrage by the Boomers, who got 13 points from point guard Patrick Mills.
Wade finished with 22 points, while NBA scoring champ LeBron James scored 16 and Los Angeles Laker Bryant had 13.
Bryant is one of the world's highest paid sportsmen and the NBA's reigning MVP and said he was impressed with the Boomers' style of play.
"That team, I wasn't familiar with any of them until today," he said.
"But they've got some players over there that are some pretty damn good players.
"We knew they were going to go out there and be physical and play hard, not do anything dirty.
"I mean you had a little altercation out there but you understand that both teams are just out there playing basketball and just trying to win and compete.
"I think they played extremely well.
"I think it was clear to me that they were an extremely well coached team, they executed extremely well. I mean they're great.
"This is the best team we've faced so far in terms of their execution and how hard they played and it was a fun game to be a part of."
Australia went into the third quarter down 44-29, but a three-pointer by swing man Matthew Nielsen pulled the Boomers within four to 48-44 with six minutes left in the period, silencing the largely pro-US fans.
During the Australian-run, sharpshooter David Barlow scored 10 of his 12 points, hitting four of five from behind the arch for the night.
Centre Chris Anstey scored 13 points and had six rebounds for Australia, who played without injured Milwaukee Bucks centre Andrew Bogut.
Bogut sat out the match with an ankle injury but will be fit for the Boomers' opening match of the Games against Croatia on Sunday.

Also I was freaking out about the guy running in space 200 metres off the ground, I kept thinking he would get nervous and drop the torch haha and then what, how bad would that be, the guy just hanging there crying for screwing up in front of over 4 billion people, they must have glued it to his palm or something, surely they wouldnt have taken the chance on him dropping it with nothing to stop it from falling, and when he lit the fuel pipe, that could have gone bad too, I was picturing the fuel blowing back and igniting him lol

The Chinese have concentrated solely on this Olympics. They've worked their athletes hard and thrown gobfuls of cash at it. Probably more money than any other nation.
