The Eels victory finally cemented the top eight positions on the ladder.
Third-placed North Queensland will host the sixth-ranked Bulldogs on Saturday night in Townsville, the Dogs sent back to Dairy Farmers Stadium after losing to the Cowboys 38-32 on Friday.
In Saturday's late game second-ranked Manly will host the seventh-placed South Sydney at Brookvale Oval, the Rabbitohs qualifying for their first finals series since 1989.
And next Sunday in a grand final re-match, eighth-placed Brisbane will travel to Melbourne to clash with minor premier Melbourne Storm at Olympic Park.
Under the NRL's final eight system, the two highest ranked winners in week one will progress directly to the preliminary finals while the two lowest ranked losers are eliminated.

My tips are the Storm, Sea eagles, Cowboys and Eels. Warriors V Eels is easily the game of the round IMO, hopefully they both bring their attacking games. Rabbits could cause an upset though i think manly will lift.

I'm hoping Eels make it through.. I want to go see them play!
I'd like to see Tahu before he goes to England.
And I'd love the Bunnies to get a win!

Yea Top 4 should be fine and will probably win this week.. unless the Doggies get fired up about facing the 'two man team' twice in a row!

SBW Suspended for 1 Week
David Fa'alogo Suspended for 7 Weeks
Bulldogs are going to struggle without SBW
I'd like to see Tahu before he goes to England.

This finals system is lame, it leads to some boring blow-out matches in the first weekend.
knight-no-7
06-09-2007, 09:39 PM
Yea 1 v 8 etc/// The afl system of 1v 4, 2v3, 5v8, 6 v 7 would be better i reckon
jamesgould
06-09-2007, 09:43 PM
Same.
Bedsey_is_the_best
06-09-2007, 10:40 PM
Yeah I agree, they need a new system. I think the idea is 2 get rid of the pretenders in the first week though

07-09-2007, 12:02 AM
Rabbits n Broncos should go out this week
Yea 1 v 8 etc/// The afl system of 1v 4, 2v3, 5v8, 6 v 7 would be better i reckon
That would be one hell of a finals series. Probably more exciting than the one we have now.
The first week would be:
Storm v Warriors (What a game that would be!)
Sea Eagles v Cowboys
Eels v Broncos
Bulldogs v Rabbitohs

Man, that was disappointing by the Warriors. In front of that big home crowd, they should have won. In retrospect I suppose it was their first final since 2004, and a lot of their players were new to the environment. But still ...
What was Swann thinking not passing? He'll never live that down. Pretty obvious the way the way was going that it cost them the win. Price's chargedown at the end was also baffling. I don't see Parra going too far, they had enough ball to win two or three matches in the first half but had nothing against a decent defence. They'll get eaten alive if they play Melbourne at any stage.
Warriors can improve and win next week, but 2008 will be their year to have a genuine shot at the comp, I reckon.

I was cheering for the warriors as well james swann what was he thinking!

07-09-2007, 10:21 PM
Everyone here seemed to be cheering for the Warriors! It was very good of you all. That poor big crowd. Such a great crowd for a league game in NZ, what a shame they won't be playing there next week.
knight-no-7
07-09-2007, 10:42 PM
Yea stadium drenched in black.. good to see... yea SWANN he had to pass!! and the Penalty Try! Bill Harrigons justification was that because he took him out, the knock on was rubbed out... so in a way played cont. and try was awarded. If that happened every week, we'd be seeing 100-penalty tries a season!!!
jamesgould
07-09-2007, 10:49 PM
:o
Well if he had just ruled that Witt had have scored had he not been tackled early - Witt did end up on the line, so I could sort of see his point of view, even though I disagreed. But his actual justification makes it the worst decision ever!!!

07-09-2007, 11:26 PM
Excuse me I was not cheering for the Warriors! Eels all the way.
I thought they did well under the pressure. A lot better in the last few weeks. Especially not a bad effort seen as they were backing up from a Sunday arvo game!
And the crowd in NZ was awesome, they really went all out for the black out thing.
knight-no-7
07-09-2007, 11:26 PM
yea otherwise we would be seeing penalty tries week in week out!
Bedsey_is_the_best
08-09-2007, 08:39 PM
Yeah that Penatly try was a bad mistake from Billy Boy, very stupid. But since now I'm apparentley an eels supporter go the Eels.

Im Really annoyed that the eels and eagles won - didnt care for the result in the dogs cowboys match. Im still rooting for the warriors next week though. If Melbourne win tonight, which is almost certain, does that meen Warriors play the bulldogs next week?
