2007 State of Origin 2:
Queensland 10 defeated New South Wales 6.
New South Wales had it all to play for in match two - the 2007 series, an unbeaten record at Telstra Stadium, and ending a three match losing streak.
However it all went down the gurgler, with one of the poorest performances in memory by the Blues. They had enough ball to win several matches, but never looked anything like winning the match.
They did open the scoring, however, in the eighth minute. Steve Simpson made a great charge towards the line, and late call-up Brett Stewart dived over from dummy-half to open the scoring.
Queensland hit back in the 19th minute when Cameron Smith went shortside, drew Matt King and found Greg Inglis who raced around to score close to the posts. The score remained 6 all until the 64th minute - then Jonathan Thurston grubbered from 20 metres out for Steve Bell who dived over. Despite a forward pass in the lead-up, rookie referee Shayne Hayne awarded the try.
Despite a late rally by New South Wales, they could not score the matchwinner, and Queensland left Telstra Stadium with a clean sweep in their sights.
Debut referee Shayne Hayne had a shocking match, allowing too much latitude in the play the ball, and not awarding any penalties for the first hour. New South Wales were worse though, with their tactics making little sense. Danny Buderus, seemingly under instructions, made few runs from dummy-half - but did have an outstanding match in defence.
